I've been tutoring during high school on a volunteer basis, in everything from geometry to trigonometry, for service credit for over two years. I have a 3.5 GPA and am planning to become an engineer. I have taken Chemistry at the AP level and got a 4/5 on my AP exam.
I first check what the student doesn't understand, and from there try to explain the problems in the plainest terms, with examples when needed. This method is great at reviewing for tests, and helps troubleshoot at what the student is weakest at. At the end of every session, I review the entire subject with the student using example problems.
